WHO IS SHE
A Community Project to honour women who have enriched our lives
The Ban Righ Centre supports mature women who are starting or returning to education at Queen’s University. In taking this significant step, these women found role models, advocates and inspiration in other women. Then, as they engage in their studies and in their activities beyond Queen’s with friends, family, peers and colleagues, these students effect continual and positive change, extending the reach of their mentors and the Ban Righ Centre. Through “Who Is She?” we honour women who make a difference.
Honoured by: Linda Williams
Dorothy Williams is a gentle woman who has positively influenced many people: her husband of nearly 58 years, her 3 children, her 7 grandchildren, community groups with whom she volunteered, her Church community, and individuals in whom she took a special interest and supported over the years. When once it was Dot who visited elderly women and shared tea and conversation, it is now the season for her to be visited by caring younger women. She taught that time is the sweetest gift we can give each other.
The lessons I have learned from Dot are both simple and profound. Open your heart and home to others, each day do something to help someone else or learn something new, take time to watch the clouds, nurture your faith for guidance and comfort during the inevitable troubled waters ahead, look on the bright side, finish what you start, swim nude when you get the chance, set high standards for yourself and work to reach them, celebrate your achievements, live by the Golden Rule. Have fun!
Mom, I offer this tribute in gratitude and appreciation for what you bring to me and many others.
With love, Linda
